The Hong Kong Institute of Architects organized a seminar titled “Why openBIM?” on 8 July 2024, which was conducted both face-to-face and via Zoom. The seminar aimed to explore the world of openBIM, delving into its key concepts and advantages. It shed light on the transformative potential of openBIM for the architecture sector and shared insights, practical examples and success stories of openBIM implementation in real-world projects in Hong Kong and beyond.

The buildingSMART International – Asia Summit 2024, hosted by HKABAEIMA and buildingSMART Hong Kong, China Chapter, was successfully held at Crowne Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon East on 17 and 18 June 2024. The summit was themed “Accelerating openBIM adoption for Smart Cities and Sustainability.”
The event featured a host of world-class leaders, including buildingSMART International’s Global Leaders, overseas, mainland, and local experts, as well as government officials from diverse economies. These esteemed individuals shared their insights and experiences with the participants.
Throughout the two-day event, attendees had the opportunity to participate in Masterclasses, which provided valuable insights into improving project quality and leveraging openBIM technologies for better collaboration and efficiency in the construction industry.
The International Conference on BIM Technology, one of the largest annual BIM events in Mainland China, was successfully conducted in Hong Kong this year with the theme “Empower Construction Digitalisation and Smart City Management with BIM”. The event took place on May 30 and 31 at the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel. With two days of live presentations and technical visits, it provided a unique platform for global industry leaders, stakeholders and scholars to share and explore the latest advancements in the construction industry.
A.C.I.D. was one of the sponsors of the event, and our Managing Director, Mr David Fung, also delivered a presentation titled “From Construction to Operation.”
To recognize best practices and innovations of openBIM and/or openGIS applications in project delivery and/or lifecycle asset management in the built asset industry in Hong Kong, HKABAEIMA and the Hong Kong Chapter of buildingSMART International are launching the Hong Kong openBIM/openGIS Awards 2024. The final presentation of the competition was held on 7 May 2024 at CIC Zero Carbon Park. There were altogether 21 shortlisted teams and presentations in three categories of submission: (1) Project Category; (2) Research Category, and (3) Technology Category.
Mr David Fung was the judging panel member of the competition.
HKIBIM BIM Automation Arena 2023 was held on 31 March 2023 at OVC, The Arcade, Cyberport. Finalists from different categories including Visual Programming, Application Programming Interface/ Plugin and Software Applications made their presentations during the event. IM-CDE : Cloud, Mobile and Metaverse from A.C.I.D. awarded Gold Prize in the Software Applications (Standalone/SaaS) – Corporation category and Best User Experience Award – Corporation.
To give tokens of appreciation on the supports and efforts contributed to the assessment panels of the CIC BIM Certification and Accreditation Schemes (BIMCAS), an appreciation lunch has been arranged on 28 November 2022 at Palace One, Kowloon Bay.
As member of the BIMCAS assessment panel, Mr David Fung joined the lunch and received the Certificate of Appreciation during the event.
Development Bureau and the Construction Industry Council (CIC) co-organise the Celebration of BIM Achievement in 2022. The event aims to inspire organisations and practitioners to continually be creative, innovative, transformative or disruptive in bringing BIM to its full potential, by recognising and sharing their achievements with all stakeholders.

Advanced Construction Information Development Limited has been awarded BIM Training and R&D Organisations 2022. The certificate presentation ceremony was held at CIC – Zero Carbon Park on 19 October 2022.
To showcase and celebrate the extraordinary achievements made by companies / organisation / projects / initiatives and individuals in Hong Kong BIM industry for the third year, HKIBIM Awards have been expanded into 14 categories: 6 for BIM projects, 6 for BIM organization and 2 categories for individuals. The presentation ceremony was held at The Langham, Tsim Sha Tsui on 7 October 2022.
A.C.I.D. received two awards this year in the BIM Organisation category:
Organized by CIC, “Launching of Enhanced CIC BIM Portal Object Library” webinar was held on 1 June 2022. New features of enhanced BIM object library and BIM standards-related publication pages in the CIC BIM Portal have been introduced during the event.
The Family Library Interchange Programme (F.L.I.P.), co-developed by A.C.I.D. and Autodesk, is now fully adopted and implemented by CIC. The ownership and maintenance of F.L.I.P. was handed over to CIC and the history of F.L.I.P. Master Type List was shared during the webinar.
Mr David Fung, Managing Director of A.C.I.D., also joined the event as a representative of F.L.I.P.
On 1 June 2022, Architectural Services Department arranged an internal sharing session for 2 projects – Yau Ma Tei Theatre Phase 2 and Fu Shan Public Mortuary. As the BIM consultant of the 2 projects, Mr David Fung, our Managing Director, shared the adoption of CDE during the design and construction stage, as well as presented how CDE has improved the collaboration and design coordination. He also introduced new function of IM-CDE during the event.
