- In UK, BIM Protocol was developed to standardize the BIM practices. While this protocol is BIM generic, there are platform specific protocols published to achieve the BIM standardization.

- In China, BIM standard framework is implemented. While the CBIMS is under preparation, China has already implemented a National BIM Proficiency Skill Examination since 2013 of which different level of BIM skills are identified, examined and certified. Qualifed candidates were anounced and published.
- In Hong Kong, HKIBIM maintains a platform specific Certified Expert List to certify a candidate who can attain a certain level of BIM proficiency skill. HKIBIM organizes Certified Expert Examination and certifies its members who has passed a certain level of examination.
The examination is divided into three levels:
Level I is a general BIM skill.
Certified Expert (Revit) Level I – BIM Modeling Technician
Level II is an more advanced BIM skill which is discipline specific.
Certified Expert (Revit) Level II Architectural – Senior BIM Modeling Technician
Certified Expert (Revit) Level II Structural – Senior BIM Modeling Technician
Certified Expert (Revit) Level II MEP – Senior BIM Modeling Technician
Level III is BIM Application Designer which can only be attained by discipline specific Professionals.
Certified Expert (Revit) Level III – BIM Application Designer
The Certified Expert (classified) Examination maintains a high level of expertise in relevant BIM skill level. In the long run, the HKIBIM Certified Expert qualifications shall seek for other international mutual qualification recognition.
